June 26th, 2007A Boost of $111,778.92 in 5 Weeks
I was going through some of my 3.5″ x 5″ cards that I have lying on my desk today when I came across some of the notes I had made while writing a post about site values back in May. Oddly enough, despite all of the electronics that I make use of in my day-to-day, I still find the simple elegance of a pen to be more powerful than my 400 MHz PDA.
Considering how I had recently taken part in a ViralTags Campaign, I was curious to know what value Dane Carlson’s Business Opportunities Weblog would assign to this site.
On May 18th I was assigned a value of $12,419.88. At the time, I had thought this was pretty decent. While I wouldn’t have sold my site for such an amount, it was good for a slight personal value boost. Today when I checked, my site was assigned a value of $136,618.68.
Sweet.
I know this is a false value, and the mathematics behind it was completely skewed by the ViralTags campaign, but it’s still a pretty big number to see as a “potential worth.” I have three weeks remaining with my current employer and, while there are some future prospects, I am about to go into a huge financial unknown zone as I attempt to make the move from Canada to Japan.
Reiko and I still have a wedding to pay for, and it would be nice if we could put down a sizable amount on a mortgage after we’re married. I would certainly consider selling j2fi.net for $136K. Heck, I’ll even say that I would consider half this sticker price.
But that said, the domain name is one that has a strong personal meaning for me. My initials are JFJI and, after a small project in Mrs. DeLuca’s 10th grade Art Class, the J2fi (with the 2 actually being a superscript 2, meaning “squared”) personal logo was born and has since been a key part of my signature. Would I seriously consider giving up something that is so uniquely me for the sake of a couple of bucks and an easier transition into married life?
P.S. I accept PayPal, Email Money Transfers from Canadian banks, and cash
