March 15th, 2008More Than The Sum Of Our Data
How much data do you generate every day? I bet it’s a number much higher than you expect.
I heard about EMC’s Digital Footprint Calculator through Pete Steege’s Storage Effect site, and I’ll admit that I was intrigued by the concept of calculating my digital footprint. Storage space is pretty important to me, and I have long known that I have an average digital consumption of 12 Gig per week … but according to EMC’s little application, it’s quite a bit higher than what I thought.
Just how high is high? About 60 Gigabytes per day.
One word of warning before you consider using the Footprint Calculator, though, as it’s a program that you download and install. Considering how this calculation is based on a series of survey questions, I don’t see why it’s not done completely through the web browser. But, I’ve run this through a few tests and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything weird to the virtual machine it’s installed on, nor does it appear to be accessing the internet to pass off any personal information.
So what’s your digital footprint?
