Non-English characters can be displayed if WordPress is configured for UTF-8 display and the database can handle extended-ASCII characters. I'll be sharing ways to accomplish this in the next few days on another site, as it's starting to become more of an issue as more non-English people start participating on English blogs :)

Hi Jason,
I see, thanks.
indeed, it doesn't look like a problem I need to spend time solving :).

I did notice a few css problems with 1.5.2 and WP 2.5 (with the size of the exclude lists), but looks like everything else is okay.

btw:
I think your comment email notification was also broken by the upgrade, I never got a notification.

Hi, Omry.

Your FireStats package works just fine under 2.5, and collects data without any trouble. The main problem is with the custom admin theme, which is more visually appealing than the default. I don't think you'll want to get into the habit of updating your excellent stats package for all the different themes that are likely to come out for WordPress 2.5.

The only issue that I really see between the most current release of FireStats and WordPress 2.5 is the lack of information on the Dashboard. However, since this was completely revamped, I wasn't really expecting to see anything.

I've included two pictures that show you the difference between the two themes, but I don't think that you'll need to spend much time on any 2.5-specific updates :)

<a href="http://www.j2fi.net/images/firestats_1.jpg" title="FireStats with Custom Fluency Theme" rel="nofollow">FireStats with Custom Fluency Theme</a>

<a href="http://www.j2fi.net/images/firestats_2.jpg" title="FireStats with Default Theme" rel="nofollow">FireStats with Default Theme</a>

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Hi Jason,
I didn't have time to look at 2.5 yet, but I will soon.
please open bug reports at http://firestats.cc/newticket about the issues you encountered with FireStats and WP 2.5.

Thanks.

Hmm ... I swear I've read this comment before

Perhaps it's a sign that I shouldn't be messing with things that work, as it often ends in ruin. That said, I'll be keeping my other blogs on a non-2.5 release for the time being. Perhaps 3.0 will offer me what I'm looking for

From our earlier off-blog discussion:

I don't really use Wordpress as much as you do. Once every couple of days at most really. I've never used the image uploader, I've always just FTP'd my images to a folder outside Wordpress and linked to the images that way. All the fancy imaging gimmicks in WP 2.5 is wasted on me. I have a ton of plugins on my blog and I'm still amazed they haven't put checkboxes on the plugins page yet to speed up the activating/disabling process for selected plugins. It will take me a while to figure out where everything in admin is, but I guess I'll get used to it.

As for upgrading, it would have gone smoother if I'd put the files in the right folder, but once I realized my mistake, it magically "healed" itself. :)

I would recommend Wordpress 2.5 for a brand new blog, or for those who haven't tinkered too much with their current installation. ;)
