Indeed. Once irrefutable proof arises, probably being in the shape of a living and breathing alien life form with decent ESL abilities (every alien speaks English on TV, right?), then we'll need to re-examine who we really are and what our role in the universe will be.

That said ... I don't think the majority of us are ready to accept that a greater intelligence in the universe may exist, aside from that of God.

Perhaps we'll be ready for such a revelation in another few generations when we've solved a few more of our bigger problems and come to terms with our petty differences and disagreements :???:

Ah, if only we had an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive" title="Wiki on the Alcubierre Drive" rel="nofollow">Alcubierre Drive (Warp Drive)</a>, then we could visit our stellar neighbours and truly find an answer to this question.

I think that the odds would have to be in favor of there being other forms of life some place in the world. I honestly am not sure what to think about whether or not they have visited or know of our existence....or if we are like ants in their ant farm or what :S

One thing about this topic, the only way the argument would ever end is for some unrefutable proof of their existence to be discovered...

I'm also in the camp of they probably exist but the laws of physics mean they are not here and have never visited hear. Yes, I know, worm holes, black holes, etc. could possibly get past Einsteins Theory of Relativity and mean that aliens could visit Earth but I doubt it.

There are a billion x a billion stars in the Universe and the chances that even a few hundred let alone a few million of them support a planet that supports life is highly likely in my book.

I think I am going to go see the new X Files movie though.
