So far, it hasn't been for me -- since most of my family in the US are on there, it helps me keep tabs on what's happening in their lives. Such events may seem boring to most people, but it serves to make me feel like I'm still in touch, without actually having to make an undue effort to *stay* in touch. I can post something about what I did over the weekend and know that most of my relatives will know about it within two or three hours. I think that's neato-torpedo. Sure, it's a time vampire, but then again, the whole entire internet is a time vampire. The only time I've ever felt insulted by Facebook is when I kept getting hit with ads that said "Find a job in Tokyo!" or "Find Asian women online!", neither of which I need nor want, and I was miffed at being locationally profiled.
