Shortly after upgrading from an older iPaq 2210 to a newer 211 model, I started thinking about a new application that would allow me to write pages and posts for WordPress-based sites.  There are already several applications that try to accomplish this goal, but none really offer the features that I’m looking for.

There aren’t too many, really.  The main features I’m looking for include:

  • clean, responsive and intuitive interface
  • support for VGA, QVGA and other display resolutions
  • mutli-site support
  • integration with several key WordPress plugins
  • Today screen integration
  • comment handling
  • image handling
  • browsable image library with Google Images integration
  • date/time editing
  • tag and category placement
  • local copy of all posts, drafts and notes (quick note functionality required, too)
  • auto-save after X minutes

That’s not too much to ask for … right?  Well, maybe it is.  However, in the world of blogging, having the right tool available can spell the difference between success and failure.  Especially when you’re spending 12+ hours every week on a train and countless hours waiting for one reason or another, which can all be put to better use by writing!

To that end, I’ve decided to put my years of programming to use in order to deliver the next great “must have” tool for mobile bloggers:  Embink!

Windows Mobile - Designed With Mobility In MindEmbink is going to be a rich blog-writing application for Windows Mobile devices, and will aim to solve several of the problems faced by busy people.  Of these, the main problems addressed include the ability to quickly take notes while on the go, being compatible with some of the plugins currently in use on sites, storing existing posts locally for offline viewing, linking and editing, as well as simple image handling.

As of this writing, Embink is not even in Alpha form, with only a rudimentary framework in place and an overly simplistic feature set.  However, as the program matures, I will begin releasing development-versions of the software.  If you have a feature idea or would like to help in some fashion, feel free to contact me.

Of course, if you would like to help financially, donations of any amount are appreciated.  Heck, it’ll be your donations that will justify the time spent on this project to my lovely wife :P
Stay tuned!  The best is yet to come.
